SCHEELS coming to Meridian April 6

MERIDIAN, Idaho (CBS2) — Outdoor sporting goods store SCHEELS is a month away from opening and to say they have a lot to keep you entertained is an understatement.

"The better question is, 'What don't we have?' I think that's a good way to think about it," said SCHEELS assistant store leader Bill Wampler. "We have anything from fishing, to modern sporting rifles, to baseball, softball, golf, if it's outside, it's probably in our store."

SCHEELS is a one-stop-shop that's been around since 1902, and they say they're excited to come to Idaho.

"I want to speak on behalf of all the associates here, we just can't wait to get our doors open and start meeting more of the community in Idaho and show people what we're all about," said SCHEELS assistant store leader Jordan Moeai.

While we can't show you the ins and outs of Meridian's 316,000-square-foot store just yet, all the photos in this article demonstrate what you can expect to see inside Idaho's storefront.

"It's not just a product that we carry, we have a lot of fun activities here such as our Ferris Wheel and we have a roller ball, we have arcades," said Moeai. "We have little specialty shops around the entire store, so anywhere from outdoor activities like hunting and camping, fishing, but we also carry sports like football, baseball, there's golf. Downstairs we have high-end fashion. We also have bikes, cafes, so if you're hungry, you can come in and grab a bite to eat. We also have a candy store that's going to be here, so all sorts of things."

The SCHEELS in Meridian will be employing around 500 Idahoans and they say there are still about 100 positions left to fill.

"I've been at SCHEELS for about three years now and I've loved every second of it," said Wampler. "I mean, if you love what you do, you never work a day in your life."

Wampler moved states for his job at SCHEELS and says one of the reasons he was willing to do so is because of how great they treat their employees.

"We pride ourselves on having the best employee discount in retail. All of our associates basically are able to buy the things we're passionate about at a very, very good deal. Basically, we say that you're not an expert in here until you're an expert out there, so we want all of our employees to be able to use the products that we sell. We do a lot of things like demos for employees," said Wampler. "I've literally been on every single kayak we sell."

Investing in their employees is just one of SCHEEL's values. They also pride themselves on being involved in the community.

"It is the most important thing and basically, without the community, we wouldn't be in business and we strive to have the best customer service. We understand that everyone's just as stoked as we are when they come in our store and we get to sell our products to them because we use the same thing," said Wampler. "It's life experiences we get to share with all of our customers and I think that's why Scheels is so much fun."
