LoL Ahri ASU Ability Changes
Riot Games have finally revealed one of the most anticipated updates of League of Legends, the Ahri ASU.
League of Legends is a very old game. It was released over 10 years ago. Around those days, Riot released many champions. Even though, at the time, they were visually appealing. But nowadays, they look extremely dated compared to some of the newest champions.
One of those said-dated champions is Ahri. She was released at the end of 2011 and has been a popular champion for the longest time. Because of her memorable design, she is recognizable even to people who don’t play League or interact with anything related to the world of Runeterra. Even so, her visual is extremely dated to the point that she doesn’t even have a recall animation.
That’s why Riot has been trying to get Ahri back into the spotlight. Very recently, she received a significant mini-rework. Because of this, her play rate went up by a lot. And before that, Riot announced that Ahri would be receiving an ASU.
ASU or Art and Sustainability Update is a new type of update where a champion gets a full visual overhaul without changing the kit. The first champion who received this sort of update was Caitlyn in 2021.
Even though in the preview video for preseason 11, Riot said that Ahri would be getting her ASU in 2022. But since Ahri has a lot of skins that need to be updated, her ASU won’t be coming out this year.
But Riot finally shared some anticipated details about the Ahri ASU in their recent blog post. In it, they showed off a detailed overview of Ahri’s new model and the VFX and animations.

Ahri ASU New Abilities
Ahri ASU New Ability Icons
Her ability icons have changed drastically from her original counterpart. First of all, her Passive Essence Theft is not a ball anymore. Instead, it looks like her passive on Ruined King: A League of Legends Story.
Ahri’s Q – Orb of Deception and E – Charm looks similar to the original but with a little upgrade. Ahri’s W – Foxfire changed slightly but not as much as her passive icon. And Ahri’s R – Spirit Rush icon also got a huge upgrade. Before, her R icon looked similar to the current Akali’s R, whereas now, it’s easy to distinguish from one another.
Ahri’s Q
Ahri’s Q – Orb of Deception looks much more incredible now. Before, it felt like Ahri would throw her orb without any reaction. Now it seems like she is throwing her orb full of emotions. But it also feels like the orb is a little delayed, whereas before, it was more instantaneous.
Ahri’s W
Similar to Ahri’s Q, her W – Foxfire, even though gorgeous, feels more delayed. The reason is that the current Ahri animation is much more sped up when compared to the new ASU.
Ahri’s E
Ahri’s E – Charm also looks better than ever. But Ahri’s E animation feels more sped up, unlike her Q and W. Regardless, her E VFX is more distinguishable than before. So now players can actually see and react to her attacks properly.
Also, we can see the new “Tails Physics” properly with her E. Riot has been adding more life and animations to her tails. That includes idle animations to abilities.
Ahri’s R
Ahri’s R – Sprit Rush is now more recognizable now. Before, it was hard to tell if she was using her ult or not. Now you can tell just by looking at the VFX. But her animations still feel the same as before. But because of the slight tweak and the all new tails physics, she looks on par with all the newest champions in the game.
Release Date
Even though there isn’t a specific date, according to RiotReav3, Ahri’s ASU will release early next year.
RiotReav3 later added on Reddit that, Ahri’s ASU would release after Aurelion Sol’s CGU and before the upcoming Ixtal Enchanter.
