Kat Mertsch is a young disc golfer from Arkansas who has been making waves in the sport since her debut on the Disc Golf Pro Tour in 2019. Her skills have improved steadily over the years, and she is now considered one of the most promising young players on tour.
Disc Golf Beginnings
Kat Mertsch’s initial impression of disc golf was not great. Her brother introduced her to the sport, but she found it difficult to throw the Frisbee straight and far. However, one day while throwing discs around a pool, she discovered a yellow, David Wiggins Jr. edition, Innova Blizzard Boss, which she tried on a forehand line and instantly fell in love.
Career Journey
After winning her first disc golf event in the FA2 division at the 34th Annual Arkansas State Championships, Mertsch’s whole mindset changed. She realized that disc golf was something she could potentially do well and be proud of. In 2020, Mertsch took home the Professional Disc Golf Association’s Rookie of the Year title, and she earned four top 10 finishes on the DGPT and National Tour the following season. In 2022, she is currently eighth in FPO in DGPT tour points and has six top 10 finishes in Elite Series events, which includes a podium finish at the 2022 Jonesboro Open.
