Idaho man indicted for shooting at Hells Canyon and Brownlee dam power stations

An Idaho man has been indicted by a federal grand jury on charges of shooting at power stations at the Hells Canyon and Brownlee Dams.

U.S. Attorney for Idaho district Josh Hurwit announced 58-year-old Randy Scott Vail of Meridian, Idaho, has been indicted on two counts of destruction of an energy facility.

On June 8, 2023, Vail allegedly used a rifle to shoot at the Hells Canyon Dam hydroelectric power station and the Brownlee Dam hydroelectric power station, causing damage to both. The dams produce and distribute electricity to Washington, Oregon, and Idaho.

If convicted, Vail faces a maximum of 20 years in federal prison.
