“Iron” Michael Chandler became a sensation after he signed up with UFC, leaving Bellator. One of the pillars of his life is his wife, Brie, and their two children, Hap Whitaker and Ace. Chandler and his wife adopted the boys in 2017 and 2022, respectively. Together, the Chandler family is joyful, but people online have made disheartening remarks about it.

Chandler’s act of adoption has received many admirers and detractors. The controversial Dillon Danis even allegedly claimed Chandler was sterile. Moreover, unnamed individuals on social media made racist remarks. In his recent appearance on The Shawn Ryan Show, Chandler cleared the air about the adoption, particularly as his kids are Black.

You get this question too, where it's like, 'Well, hey, you're a white dude from Missouri living in Nashville. How are you going to raise black children?' And my thought is, and it probably rubs people the wrong way, and it's probably the wrong answer that people want to hear, is I'm not raising black children. I'm raising children. I'm not raising black men. I'm raising men. 

Chandler stated race does not matter when it comes to character and integrity. Moreover, he has instilled the belief in safeguarding the helpless and being a good man of reputation. Chandler values a man with a character inside rather than a skin color outside.

Interestingly, Israel Adesanya joked about adopting Chandler on social media when the duo met at UFC 300. Chandler also played into the joke on social media. For Chandler, he has the biggest fight of his MMA career against Conor McGregor at UFC 303. If victorious against the Irishman, he believed in leapfrogging Arman Tsarukyan for the next title shot.

Michael Chandler is a consummate professional. Additionally, he is a beloved husband to his wife, Brie, and father to his sons, Hap and Ace. In combat sports, the question often arises of whether the kids of fighters would follow in their footsteps.

Some are in for the idea, while others are against it. Khabib Nurmagomedov had revealed he didn’t want his sons to compete in MMA. On the other hand, fighters like Conor McGregor want to. In his recent appearance on The Shawn Ryan Show, Chandler opened up about what he would do if his sons chose to do MMA.

If it is their calling, and if it is the calling on their life, absolutely. But I don't really have any visions of what I want them to be necessarily. I do want them to try everything. I do want them to definitely, for now, enjoy team sports, I think sports in general.

Chandler revealed that he was not against his sons doing MMA. However, he also won’t be encouraging it. As of now, Chandler wants Hap and Ace to engage in team sports to develop character. Moreover, if they choose to do MMA, he felt they would have an added advantage in business decisions as their father had experienced it. However, he also confirmed that his wife, Brie, would be against the idea.
